Blind size is only the label
A $1/$3 game with $100 stacks plays very differently from a $1/$3 game where players can sit $1,000 deep. The amount of money behind each player changes the size and complexity of post-flop decisions.
Minimum buy-in
The smallest amount the room permits you to bring to the table. Buying the minimum can reduce absolute exposure, but it also changes strategy because you have less room to manoeuvre after the flop.
Maximum buy-in
The largest starting stack allowed under the table's rules. Some games use a fixed maximum; others use a “match the stack” approach.
Match the stack
In a match-the-stack game, the permitted buy-in can be tied to the largest stack already at the table. Elements Mohawk currently publishes $2/$3 and $3/$5 match-the-stack structures.
Effective stack
The relevant stack in a hand is the smaller of your stack and your opponent's stack, because that is the most either of you can win from the other.
